About Gombe National Park
Gombe National Park, located on the shores of Lake Tanganyika, is renowned for its chimpanzee population and the pioneering research conducted by Jane Goodall. The park offers a unique opportunity to observe these primates in their natural habitat.
In addition to chimpanzees, the park is home to other primates such as red colobus monkeys and olive baboons. Visitors can enjoy hiking through the forested hills and along the streams.
The park's diverse ecosystems include tropical rainforest, grasslands, and woodland. Bird watching is also popular, with over 200 species recorded.
Accommodation is available at basic lodges and campsites. The best time to visit is during the dry season, from July to October, when chimpanzee sightings are more frequent.
Best time to visit Gombe National Park
The best time to visit Gombe National Park is during the dry season, from July to October. During this period, the forest trails are more accessible, and chimpanzee sightings are more frequent as the primates tend to stay closer to the lower slopes. The weather is also more pleasant for hiking and other outdoor activities.
The wet season, from November to May, brings lush, green landscapes and is a great time for bird watching. However, the trails can be slippery and more challenging to navigate. While chimpanzee sightings are still possible, they may be less predictable as the primates move deeper into the forest.
